We provide a wide range of services from traditional facilities management and estate maintenance, to sterile services, wheelchair engineering and procurement, to clients both within and beyond the NHS.
This role is based at Airedale General Hospital and will be responsible for continuing the current sustainable procurement actions which come from our Sustainable Procurement Policy, this is a joint Policy with West Yorkshire’s Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT).
The Procurement department is part of the AGH Solutions Ltd team, a wholly owned subsidiary company of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.
AGH Solutions provides procurement services to multiple organisations and this role will cover all these organisations.
You will need to be a good communicator, a member of CIPS and have sustainable procurement experience.
The post will have no direct line management responsibilities as this post is more strategic in nature and is focussed on the implementation and management of the sustainable procurement policy across all procurement functions.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the continuous review of the departments sustainable procurement policy for all stakeholder organisations within the procurement shared service.
Responsible for raising awareness with a wide range of stakeholders on sustainable procurement
Understanding of public sector procurement and be a subject matter expert for sustainability.
Provide a high-quality professional service to the Trust, AGH Solutions Ltd, ILS LLP and Bradford District Care Foundation Trust and other partners ensuring compliance with legislation
Promoting across both Trust Board, leads all strategic procurement issues with a view to maximising the environmental and social benefits
To take lead responsibility in the development and management of the standard list of equipment for:
- Medical and Non-Medical Devices
- Clinical and Non-Clinical Consumables
The post holder will maintain regular contact with senior managers

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Create and develop a five-year sustainable procurement action plan with members of the ICS/region (WYAAT).
Provide quarterly updates on the sustainable procurement action plan to AGH Solutions Board and senior Procurement managers monthly.
Identify new areas of opportunity that will release social and environmental benefits, specifically measured against ongoing baselines already developed.
Maintain current database of information and ensure Suppliers are performance managed against their sustainable pledges/contractual commitments through KPI management.
Undertakes complex analysis of information returns and other proposals, written report, or presentation, involving Clinicians or senior staff of other Departments or Trusts as appropriate.
Demonstrate whole life costs analysis is completed on all standard list items, ad hoc non-medical and medical devices.
Assists the Deputy Head of Procurement in Contracts by attending/contributing to meetings or provision of information/analysis as appropriate.
Communicates with Suppliers on a regular basis to better understand their social value priorities and maintains a top ten Supplier dashboard detailing their sustainable goals.
Ensure that specific contract clauses are included within tenders and quotations ensuring that sustainable KPI’s are built into each Contract.
To support the Deputy Head of Procurement and Supplies in managing and planning specific procurement and supplies related projects.
To manage supplier relations and information collation and ensure that adequate supplier appraisal and vendor rating systems are in place with regards to ethical supply chain selection.
Ensure that all sustainable activities adhere to AGH Solutions Ltd Standing Financial Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, policies, and procedures.
Ensure that AGH complies with EU legislation for all relevant purchasing and that all goods and services are purchased (or goods disposed of) to meet all legal requirements. Ensure probity in all actions.
Liaise and consult with departments, colleagues, industry and other institutions/ relevant organisations as appropriate, to ensure sound and effective procurement services.
Ensure that the appropriate evaluation criteria for award/review of contracts are incorporated in AGH Solutions Ltd objectives.
Ensure that contracts of an ongoing nature (particularly services) are monitored and reviewed on a timely basis.
Ensure that Key Performance Indicators are included in the tendering processes and form the basis for contract reviews.
To proactively increase the number of contracts and, in line with the AGH objectives, actively seek to develop consortia contracts where appropriate.
To manage the user interface especially where contracts are developed through the use of external agencies, e.g. Framework contracts.
To undertake the co-ordination of purchasing information of EU/Audit requirements producing statistical returns as required.
To undertake price monitoring/benchmarking of contracts for goods and services to ensure the Trust is really at the forefront of price/purchasing advantage.
To support the Deputy Head of Procurement and Supplies with internal procedures.

- Sustainable Procurement or equivalent Sustainable Business qualification
- Confident presentation skills

- Full knowledge of computer systems with experience of Microsoft Office
- Experience in a commercial or public sector service environment
- Experience in developing strategic and operational objectives

- Experience of working within ISO 14001 Environmental Management
- Experience of a widely dispersed client base

- Understanding and acceptance of NHS accountability and governance
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
